Grand Towers District Committee Positions

Open Positions

District Chairman

A district chairman is the CEO of the district. The position is responsible for the following:

  • Identify and recruit enough of the right people as operating committee chairmen.
  • Initiate plans and help committee ch airmen recruit an adequate number of members to carry out the functions of the district.
  • Plan (with the district executive) and preside at district committee meetings.
  • Work with the district commissioner and district executive to stimulate and to coordinate the work of the district, to ensure the success of the Scouting units.
  • In cooperation with the district executive, ensure the completion of district goals.

 

Unit Commissioner

Commissioners are district and council leaders who help Scout units succeed. They coach and consult with adult leaders of Cub Scout packs, Boy Scout troops, and Venturing crews. Commissioners help maintain the standards of the Boy Scouts of America.

They note the health of a Scouting program in a monthly visit, and attend District Committee meetings.

 

Development Chair

The Development Chair will oversee the implementation of Council finance procedures by:

  • Organizing a successful Friends of Scouting annual campaign, and meet the goal by  the targeted date.
  • Support the council endowment/major gifts development plan.
  • Support and cultivate a cooperative relationship with the local United Way.
  • Inform units of the unit fundraising policy and assist in the review and approval of  unit requests.
  • Support district activities that involve income and expenses, ensuring proper policy  and controls.
  • Provide recognition to donors, along with information on how their dollars helped  serve youth

 

Family Finance Campaign Chair

  • Recruit and train qualified individuals to serve as Friends of Scouting (FOS) presenters. The FOS Family Chairman should also serve as presenter.
  • Coordinate and the lead the Family FOS Kick Off
  • Ensure all units have a FOS presentation scheduled and conducted by June 30th . Presentations typically occur at Cub Scout Blue and Gold dinners and Boy Scout Courts of Honor.
  • In connection with the unit presenters, FOS Chairman and District Executive, organize and carry out the Council’s follow up plan.
  • Achieve the District’s Family Friends of Scouting goal by June 30th .
  • In connection with the District Executive, establish unit FOS goals for the following year.
  • Recognize individual donors for their contributions.

District Member At-Large

Voting member of the district committee. They are nominated by the district nominating committee and are duly elected by the voting members of the district.

They may be elected either at the last district annual meeting or during the interim at a regular duly called, monthly district committee meeting.

Roundtable

Roundtable is on the first Monday of every month at the Boys and Girls Club of Greater St. Louis (2901 North Grand Blvd.) beginning at 7pm. New information regarding district and council activities will be provided at this meeting.

To renew your unit charter on-line:

  • Sixty days before your unit’s expiration date, select a renewal processor. This should be someone in your unit who is familiar with the members and leaders of your unit to ensure all information provided through the process is correct.
  • Your unit charter renewal packet is distributed to the unit leadership and includes an access code specifically assigned to your unit.
  • Thirty to forty-five days before your unit’s expiration date, the renewal processor clicks Recharter Now on this webpage and begins the process.
  • When the on-line process is completed, the renewal processor prints the completed charter renewal application.
  • The Unit Leader and the Executive Officer sign the charter renewal application. The signed application along with any individual applications for new youth members or adult leaders, and materials received in the charter renewal packet and all appropriate fees, should then be brought to the Council Service Center, or your district’s charter turn-in meeting.

 

Grand Towers District Program Aide Opportunity

Program Aides primarily work within the school/church/community center setting.

Program Aide -Internship

  • Ensure the delivery of quality programs in all Scouting units. – Review and become familiar with program materials. – Follow the prescribed lesson plans, as outlined. – Supply uniforms, program materials, Scouting literature, and other support as needed by youth and adult members throughout the year. – Increase program quality through retention of youth and adults, advancement, and youth participation. – Complete Fast Start, Youth Protection, This is Scouting, leader-specific training, and other advanced training deemed necessary for their areas of responsibility.
  • Recruit and support volunteers to help with meetings and activities.
  • Provide a well-balanced variety of Scouting activities, including day camps, resident camps, pinewood derbies, camporees, etc.
  • Conduct field trips, campouts, cultural activities, and other horizon-broadening experiences for youth members and leaders.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with Scout leaders, Housing Authority management, Parks and Recreation departments, community associations, neighborhood churches, and other youth-serving nonprofit agencies.
  • Conduct Scouting awareness functions to increase public exposure, attract volunteers, and recruit youth.
  • Seek opportunities for program expansion and give direct leadership to organizing and staffing new Boy Scout troops, Cub Scout packs, and Venturing crews.
  • Participate in scheduled or called meetings.
  • Implement an annual incentive/recognition program for parents and volunteers who faithfully participate and provide consistent leadership. Serve as an ambassador of the Scouting program who is always striving to deliver the mission of the program.
  • Strive to ensure that every youth participant will have the opportunity to earn a minimum of one rank advancement during the program year.
