Scoutmaster/ Assistant Scoutmaster & Troop Committee Challenge

October 10, 8am – 1:15pm

Dempster Hall Room 124, Southeast Missouri State University

This class is BSA’s initial level of training for the leaders of Scout BSA troops. It is designed for Scoutmasters, assistant Scoutmasters, junior assistant Scoutmasters, Troop Committee Chairs and Committee Members. Other adults connected to a Scout troop are welcome to attend.

When Scoutmaster Position-Specific training and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) have both been completed, new Scoutmasters will have the tools need to begin an effective Scouting program.

Attending this event implies that SM and ASM will also be attending IOLS on October 24th.  Please also sign up for that training. A meeting from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm will follow this event to discuss expectations and preparations for the IOLS training.

Registration is required, no walk-ins please.

Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills

October 24, 7:45am – 8:30pm

Dempster Hall, Southeast Missouri State University

If you took the online training for SM/ASM, please attend a 3 pm meeting on October 10th to prepare for this training. Expectations and what to bring will be discussed.

The Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) course builds and expands on the concepts and themes introduced in Scoutmaster Position-Specific Training and provides Scouters with the confidence to take youth into the outdoors. Specifically, this hands-on program gives adult leaders a practical introduction to the patrol method of a Scout-led troop by teaching many of the practical outdoor skills they need to lead Scouts in the out-of- doors. In addition, the teaching methods, activities, and games model the variety of teaching used in effective and engaging Scouting programs. It is designed for Scoutmasters, assistant Scoutmasters, and junior assistant Scoutmasters. However, committee members and other adults connected to a Scout troop are welcome to attend. When Scoutmaster Position-Specific training and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) have both been completed, new Scoutmasters will have the tools needed to begin an effective Scouting program.

Registration is required, no walk-ins please.
