The Chess Club will provide small group lessons throughout the day with Scouts BSA Merit Badge Counselors. Demonstrate your knowledge of chess to the world!
- Meet other Scouts interested in chess.
- Learn from the best, at an internationally recognized chess facility.
- Learn about the scope of chess in the world today, find resources to improve your game, and find out about how you can participate in chess competitions, classes and activities.
- Earn your Scouts BSA Chess Merit Badge!
The workshop is free to any Scout looking to fulfill the merit badge requirement. Basic knowledge of chess rules is required. Transportation not provided. Lunch and snack will be provided. Parents are advised to report possible allergens.

- This program is open to Scouts in any district, but first preference will be given to those from Southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois.
- Registrations will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis, beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, March 30. Once the program is full, additional names will be added to a waiting list. NO early registrations.

Climbing

3 hour course | Cost: $40

The Rock Climbing and Rappelling Merit Badge class is a 3-4 hour interactive class taught by certified merit badge counselors. Scouts are responsible for meeting the requirements as outlined in the appropriate merit badge booklet. Participants must provide their Merit Badge application for the counselor to sign. The class includes necessary equipment rental and additional climbing. The minimum participation to hold a class is 2 and no more than 10 participants may be in a course at a time. Advanced reservations are required.
- Includes equipment rental (shoes are not included, athletic shoes are suitable) and additional climbing.
- Reservations and a $15 deposit per person are required. Please see our cancellation policy for more details.
- All participants must complete a waiver. Climbers under 18 must have the waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian.

Do you wanna have fun earning a merit badge while hanging with a bunch of dogs?
Join us at the Humane Society of Missouri as we sniff through all the requirements needed to earn your Dog Care merit badge! Unleash your creativity and have a howling good time meeting our shelter dogs all while learning facts about first aid, tips on being a terrific pet parent, tricks on training, and even how-to’s concerning rescuing dogs! What better way to learn about various breeds than to stroll through our male and female wings, getting up close and personal with the many pooches here who are waiting to meet their new families!?
Earning a merit badge has never been this much fun and we’re sure you’ll give it “two-paws up”! Scoop up some fun stuff to take home too!
PLEASE NOTE: There are nine requirements for this badge. Six of these requirements (#1, 2, 3, 6, 7 and 9) will be completed in the workshop that day.
Due to the nature of requirements #4, #5 and #8, you must complete these on your own PRIOR TO THE WORKSHOP and bring the documentation with you. We will sign off on your badge and give you a certificate of completion that day.
Closed-toed, rubber-soled shoes are required to protect your feet and give better traction when walking through the animal wings.

Join us at Camp Warren Levis for a unique merit badge workshop on Fishing & Fly Fishing or Fish and Wildlife Management. We provide the needed gear and teachers, and together we will work on the merit badges.
Classes:
The merit badge will be taught in a series of rotating sessions on different topics. You will be signed off for the requirements that you complete.

Merit badge requirements include catching a fish. We cannot guarantee you will catch a fish on this day, but we will give you the opportunity!
*Please wear your Class A Uniform for the day.
Scouts will be responsible for bringing their own blue card(s) signed by their Scoutmaster to the event.
BSA Complete Angler Service Project: This option is ONLY for Scouts who have earned all three fishing-related merit badges – fishing, fly fishing and fish and wildlife management and would like to earn the BSA Complete Angler Recognition Award. In addition to earning all three fishing-related merit badges the Scout has to complete one of the following four service projects. Scouts registering for the BSA Complete Angler Service Project will be able to complete the service project at the skill center.
BSA Complete Angler Recognition Application
Your last step is to successfully complete one or more of the following projects:
1. Teach a Fishing or Fly Fishing merit badge skill to your troop, crew or team as part of a unit program activity.
2. Help instruct Cub Scouts on fishing skills or fishery management as part of a Cub Scout meeting or outing.
3. Participate in a local fishing derby or tournament, either a Scouting or Community event.
4. Complete a conservation project that will benefit a local fishery.
If a Scout is registering for a merit badge (fishing, fly fishing or fish and wildlife management) they CANNOT register for the BSA Complete Angler Service Project.
Note: Scouts registering for the BSA Complete Angler Service Project MUST bring proof they have earned fishing, fly fishing and fish and wildlife management merit badges. They can bring their blue cards (or photocopies of their blue cards) for these merit badges or a signed letter from their Scoutmaster stating the Scout applying for the BSA Complete Angler Recognition Award has earned fishing, fly fishing and fish and wildlife merit badges. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

The Horsemanship Merit Badge Skill Center provides Scouts with knowledge of how to care, groom and ride a horse. The skill center begins with an orientation session on July 21 and then is held over three date: July 23, 28, 30th. In addition to learning how to safely ride and care for horses, Scouts who earn this merit badge will gain an understanding of horse’s instincts and behaviors, as well as humane and effective methods for training horses.
Must be Scout age (11 yrs old) at the time the 2020 HMBSC starts. Recommended age is 14 or older. This program is designed for Scouts. Venturing has different requirements.

Scouts may choose from over 25 Merit Badges. Blue cards ARE NOT needed for this event. They may be printed out from your original registration online beginning approximately one week after NESA day. PLEASE allow the office staff those few days to enter all of the information before you contact them asking for the blue cards.
There will be a morning and afternoon session. Some Merit Badges are one session long, some take multiple sessions.
It is the Troop and/or parent’s responsibility to provide adult leadership for the Scouts while they are in camp. At least one Youth Protection Trained adult should be on premises for the event.

What to Bring
Scouts must bring a merit badge pamphlet, worksheet, and other supplies required for each merit badge session. (See catalog for specifics)
Because seating is limited in some of the program areas, an easily transportable chair is recommended.
Merit Badge Sessions
Scouts may choose from Merit Badges that are offered in the course catalog. Attendance of the Merit Badge class DOES NOT guarantee completion of the Merit Badge.
NESA Advancement Day is an opportunity for the Scout to meet with a counselor to review the Merit Badge material and demonstrate his skill and knowledge in that area to the counselor.
Sessions include instruction, group discussion, demonstration, and evaluation. The Scout should be prepared to actively participate and discuss the material covered in the Merit Badge Pamphlet.
If a Scout is not prepared (not aware of the merit badge requirements) the counselor may not allow the Scout to participate.
If the Scout has completed some of the merit badge requirements, he should bring proof with him.
Can I Help With Advancement Day?
Absolutely! To make this a successful day for the boys, we need quite a bit of help. This is such a big event with so many merit badges; there are always spots that need filled or additional help to keep things running smoothly. Join us at the Humane Society of Missouri as we explore the requirements needed to earn your Pet Care Merit Badge! Learn all the ins and outs of caring for birds, reptiles, aquatic pets, dogs, cats, rabbits, farm animals and all the little critters like hamsters, gerbils and guinea pigs! You choose which animals you’d like to learn more about. This high-energy interactive class will keep you mooovin’ and hoppin’ so come motivated and ready to have fun!
PLEASE NOTE: There are several requirements for this badge. Please look at all 4 requirements before coming. All requirements but #3 will need to be met on your own outside of the workshop. This workshop is designed to give you the most pertinent and meaningful information to help you be the best pet guardian possible. Bring your completed requirement materials with you so that we can sign your card – no follow-up appointments will be made.

Curious about the Boy Scout Scuba Diving Merit Badge? Unlike many other merit badges, the Scuba Diving Merit Badge requires scuba certification from a recognized training agency as one of the key components to earning the badge. Join Y-kiki’s workshop to learn all the requirements including what it takes to become scuba certified. Attendees need not be scuba divers to attend the work shop. Bring your Swimming Merit Badge (if you have it) and a blank form for the Scuba Merit Badge.
Already scuba certified? A Scuba Merit Badge counselor will be on-hand to help start or finish the Scuba merit badge process. The workshop is held in the classroom at one of two Y-kiki locations. Scouts attending the Truck Transportation Skill Center must be in uniform and bring a merit badge card signed by their Scoutmaster. Truck Transportation Merit Badge counselors are available to meet with Scouts from 1-3 p.m. Appointments can also be made at a later date with the counselor. Participants need to bring the information needed in requirements 1 and 2 from the Truck Transportation merit badge book. Bringing the merit badge book is recommended.
Scouts should also bring a sack lunch. Registration starts at 8:30 am, class starts at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 2 pm. Dress for the weather and parents should be prepared for early pick up if the class ends early.
Space is limited to the first 100 Scouts, so register early!
*Attendance at the skill center does not guarantee that Scouts will pass the requirements for the merit badge. In accordance with the merit badge policy, a Scout must meet with a counselor to complete the merit badge requirements.
